Behind the Blog: MoCo Loco

Modern and contemporary design is the driving force behind MoCo Loco. The name ‘MoCo Loco’ comes from editor Harry Wakefield’s self description of being loco about modern contemporary design. Their blog is a daily inspiration for us so we were curious to see the space that inspires it. Click through for some more pics of the MoCo Loco space and some Q and A with Harry.

How would you describe your overall space?
I should start by saying that the space is an indirect outgrowth of my being a blogger, it’s actually the offices for Praized, a startup I’m involved in that’s making a web-based local search service for bloggers. It’s also my unofficial MoCo Loco office, the place where I do most of my MoCo Loco blogging. The space is a 1000 sq. ft. loft close to downtown Montreal in an artsy building filled with galleries, yoga studios and small web design firms. Back in 1912 it started out as a factory so we have the high ceilings and wood floors.

Matador K: “La belleza”

Colin Henderson (LONDON, UK)

23-year-old London designer Colin Henderson mixes craft with light-hearted humour.

23-year-old designer Colin Henderson describes his work as “ruggish”, because his bold, modern and tribal-inspired design may remind you of a magic carpet. Having studied illustration at Brighton University and now in London, Henderson creates multi-coloured, ethnic- and textile- informed designs, and whether they’re hand-drawn, digitally illustrated or cut-and-paste, the results are breathtaking. He has also created one-off prints and designs for T-shirts and clothing, and undertaking several special projects, in fields that range from from books to music videos.

The designer has always had an interest in the native art of global cultures. “My mum’s Vietnamese and my dad worked and travelled around Africa,” he explains. “So the house I grew up in had lots of artefacts, photos and folk art from these places.” Textiles are also a big inspiration.”My grandmother knits just about everything and used to make carpets,” he says. “Her house is filled with lots of old rug and carpet reference books.”
